Review: One Pucking Love by Ellie Wade (Crane Hockey #1)

One Pucking Love is the opening salvo in Crane Hockey, a sports romance series from Ellie Wade. This isn't my first read from this author, but it has been quite a while since my last one--like way back in 2019. Now, all my previous reads and the fact that this was a hockey romance had me eager to see how Wade would take trope on. Suffice it to say, my expectations were high. But the thing about expectations is that even though they're often based on past experience, that doesn't mean that your next one is going to be at par with everything that came before. Unfortunately, that turned out to be true with Wade's new series starter.

While Cade Richards was her brother's best friend, Iris Feldmore had her own special friendship with him growing up. Her feelings for him went from platonic to more, and she though he reciprocated them, but then he went and broke her heart with what she'd perceived as rejection. Now a superstar in the world of professional hockey, Cade and Iris run into each other again just as she's dealing with leaving not just her cheater fiancé but work at the law firm too. Cade is offering his help to get her through this, and Iris can't help but want to accept it. As long as they keep things friendly because he's already broken her heart once.

This book was kinda-sorta-maybe a bit of a mess. I honestly had to look back to make sure that this Ellie Wade was the some one whose books I had read before. After all, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that someone could have the same name. Alas, the author was one and the same, which is why I was sorely disappointed by the story I'd read. There were moments that were cringe-worthy and the text was repetitive at times. Having said that, there were bits that I did enjoy and the expected happily-ever-after was okay. Still, One Pucking Love left me wanting and unsure about continuing the Crane Hockey series. Three stars.

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way.
