Review: Time Out by Stacey Lynn (Nashville Steel #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.

I've been eagerly awaiting this second novel in Stacey Lynn's Nashville Steel series ever since I finished reading the series starter, Sneak Attack, back in March. I was intrigued by this team of professional football players who were a brotherhood in their own right, and now that I'm done reading Time Out, I've got a bit of a book hangover while already itching to find out who's up next in the series. Suffice it to say, I've grown quite fond of this series. Okay, okay, I'm addicted to all things Nashville Steel and will need more soon!

Time Out turns the spotlight on Davis Hall, the twenty-three-year-old running back in his rookie year with the Nashville Steel. While quietly celebrating a win, he meets a twenty-two-year-old waitress named Maggie, and they share one heck of an unforgettable night together. Much to Davis's disappointment, she ups and disappears as quickly as she can. So imagine his surprise when she shows up a few weeks later with unexpected news: She's expecting and the baby is most definitely his. Their situation is complicated, and not everyone in his circle trusts her, but Davis does. The question is, does Maggie trust him?

Well, talk about having one heck of a back story! I certainly didn't expect Maggie's life history to be as complex as it was, but it explained so much of why she was the way she was--from her wariness and hesitation to accept help to her need for self-preservation. And then along came Davis, and the guy came as close to perfect as a book boyfriend could get. Sure, he had flaws, but at his core, he was a good guy who was honest and sincere about his wanting to be there for Maggie and their child. I loved the dynamic between the two of them, and seeing their relationship develop brought a smile to my face. Giving Time Out five stars is a no-brainer, and I can't wait for more from this series.
