Review: "Stand By You" by A.M. Arthur

Note: This ARC was provided by Carina Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Stand By You is the third book in the Belonging series by A.M. Arthur, featuring Romy Myers, who was introduced in the first book, No Such Thing, as Ezra Kelley's friend, and Brendan Walker, who was introduced in the second book, Maybe This Time, as Donner Davis' closest friend. Their story begins in book two and while you don't necessarily have to read it in order to understand and appreciate this third one, I recommend that you read Maybe This Time. Heck, just read the series from the beginning. ^.^

Romy Myers was abused, tortured, and kept against his will by an ex but he was rescued by Ezra Kelley, Donner Davis, and Brendan Walker. He never filed charges and he still lives with the after effects of his time trapped in a relationship he was desperate to get out of. Ever since his stepmother forced him out of their family home at the age of 15, Romy has relied on sex in exchange for something, whether it be money or basic necessities. Now, he's got a paying job, a home he shares with Ezra and Donner temporarily, and protective friends like Brendan.

Brendan Walker gave up his football playing days when he experienced a career-ending injury in his junior year of college. Nowadays, he's doing okay with his cleaning job and with helping his best friend Donner with Street Feed. He's also become somewhat protective of Romy ever since he literally carried him out of the room Romy was being kept in by his abusive ex. Brendan's known he was gay ever since college but he's never been in a relationship with another man nor has he openly acknowledged his sexuality. His feelings for Romy have him ready to pursue something more.

I was already invested in Romy and Brendan's story ever since the events in book two. When Brendan swept Romy up in his arms and rushed out of that apartment, I just knew they were destined for a love story worth reading. Both Romy and Brendan are such sensitive souls and deserving of happiness that they just seemed perfect together. Romy's life is pretty much an open book, other than not being ready to discuss the details of his last day at the hands of his ex, and Brendan has his own secrets but there's such trust in their relationship that they're able to share everything with each other.

This series just keeps getting better with each new installment. Like I mentioned earlier, I recommend that you read the books in order since the characters for new installments are often introduced prior. I'm looking forward to reading the other books A.M. Arthur has in store for Belonging. ^.^ Stand By You gets 4.5 stars from me! ♥
