Review: "Take a Chance" by Abbi Glines
After what felt like forever, Grant and Harlow FINALLY get their chance to tell their story with the Chance series. ^.^ Book one is Take a Chance and after I was done reading it, I simply knew that this is now my new favorite book in the Rosemary Beach book series universe. ♥
Grant Carter was first introduced to fans of all things Rosemary Beach in Fallen Too Far and he's been a constant in the books that followed. Grant has always come off as being a good guy who seems unable to say "no" to Nan (wait...is she still Nan Finlay or is she now Nan Manning?)...that is, until he meets Harlow Manning, Nan's half-sister and the favorite child of their father, Kiro Manning. Harlow and Nan are as different as night and day and there's a mutual dislike that exists between the two.
When Harlow and Grant meet, she refuses to have anything to do with him, turned off by the idea of this guy being with Nan. However, Grant refuses to give up on this girl who's bewitched him and their journey towards having a relationship is one that makes you feel like you're on a roller coaster that suddenly stops when it hits the highest peak (evil cliffhanger!). Yes, you may as well know now that there is a cliffhanger but that makes the anticipation of finding out what happens next all the more exciting (and nerve-wracking!)
I simply loved Grant and Harlow's love story. It didn't feel rushed or forced. It wasn't this whirlwind romance that was explosive whenever they were together. Instead, the attraction between the two lead characters felt as if it was simmering and then reached a point of no return. Did I like how Grant handled things at the end? No, BUT I do understand how the news must have been surprising for Grant to hear, especially in the manner that he got it. As long as he does the right thing in book two, One More Chance, he'll still be one of my favorite book boyfriends. ^.^
For those unfamiliar with the Rosemary Beach series, may I suggest that you start with the Too Far books (four in total), followed by the Perfection books (two in total) before you start with Take a Chance. The characters and some of the story lines are interconnected and reading the previous books will help you better understand what's going on and the motivations behind some of the actions of the characters you come across.
Take a Chance gets a perfect five-star rating from me. Abbi Glines, you rock! ♥
