Review: Say You'll Stay by Kathryn Shay (To Serve and Protect #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Enticing Journey Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

Say You'll Stay is the second in author Kathryn Shay's To Serve and Protect series which is focused on one particular--the Marinos--all of whom serve the people and their country in one form or another. This second book is about the eldest Marino sibling, Gabe, who was introduced in the series starter, Above and Beyond. One mistake president in a case close to home, Gabe sees it as his opportunity get back in the good graces of the Secret Service and move forward with his dream of becoming part of the president's protective detail. Nothing's going to get in his way this time around, but then he never really expected the friendship he shares with Macy Stevens to develop into more. Macy knows all too well what it's like to have an agent in the Secret Service as your spouse. She's loved and lost before. If there's any hope of a future for Gabe and Macy, will it mean Gabe having to give up his dream?

This was another well-written romantic suspense story from Kathryn Shay and I did enjoy reading about the development of Gabe and Macy's relationship from a platonic one to a romantic one. There's chemistry between the two and the romance was sweet. However, there's just a bit too much of a similarity with the first book, i.e. Macy, just like Isabelle Barton, was a widow, although she only had one child compared to Isabelle's twins, and Gabe's ambition was in conflict with what Macy wanted, just like Nick Marino. Most importantly, the end result was the same, so this felt like a repeat of what I had already read in the first book. Sure, there were some things that were different, but those three particular similarities were at the forefront of my mind while I was reading, which in turn, affected my overall appreciation for Say You'll Stay. I'm awarding this second in a series three stars. ♥
