"You don't know that I never dared to believe a woman like you existed in the world, much less that you'd ever love me or let me love you. You don't know that you fulfilled a million secret wishes I didn't even realize I had."

Awaken is novel number three in bestselling author Nina Lane's Spiral of Bliss series about Olivia and Dean West. From my understanding, the series was originally planned as a trilogy and when you get to the end of this book, everything that needed a resolution got one, and more than satisfactorily so. If there was any couple that needed a happy ending it was Liv and Dean. And yes, I know that I said in my review for the series starter, Arouse, that life continues after the supposed happily-ever-after, but these two so deserved a resolution and not just a respite from everything that was troubling and hounding them throughout the three books. Even with every bit of frustration I was feeling over the stubbornness and hardheadedness these two repeatedly exhibited, I found myself becoming very emotionally invested in Liv and Dean West.

A secret first marriage, a miscarriage, and an accusation of sexual harassment--just one of these things could have sent a couple's relationship crumbling, but even with everything Liv and Dean were forced to deal with, there seemed to never be a question of whether or not they would deal with everything together. Some complications they brought on themselves, while others were unavoidable, and though there were moments that they chose to handle things individually, but when they were together, nothing could break them.  There were so many ups and downs, but reading the three books proved that, just like in real life, marriage is a journey that you willingly said agreed to embark upon, and like all journeys, some avenues are more difficult to navigate than others and if you get lost, you may re-discover the path again.

I love Dean. He may have initially appeared to be this unbelievably perfect man at the beginning of the series, but he proved himself to be flawed and that's exactly what made him all the more endearing. He loves Liv with all that he is and if he could take on everything and everyone that could bring her pain, he would. But then Liv is just as protective of Dean as he is of her, although she may not be as overt in her protectiveness. She's nine years younger than he is, but that doesn't automatically mean that she's immature or that he's wiser than she is. They may have been happy and content in the first five years they were a couple, but it was only after having undergone all they did in the months the three books covered that they found a deeper sense of love for and commitment to each other. Awaken receives five-plus stars. ♥
