Review: Tied Up in You by Erin Fletcher (Breakaway #2)

Tied Up in You is the second book in the young adult (YA) hockey romance series, Breakaway, and Erin Fletcher doesn't disappoint with this best friends-to-lovers story. If you've read the series starter, All Laced Up, you'll remember Luke Jackson, a member of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program (NTDP). He now gets his own story, one that he shares with his longtime best friend, Malina Hall. They're both high school seniors, but over the past few months, Jackson and Malina seem to be going in different directions, what with him being more focused than ever on hockey and not on applying for college and her spending all her time working on her STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) project and preparing applications for a variety of universities. But their friendship remains solid...that is, until one accidental kiss shakes things up between the two.
I adored Jackson and Malina and loved reading their story, watching their friendship develop into something more. Neither one was forcing their relationship to go from platonic to romantic. If anything, they seemed to be so caught off-guard by that first kiss of theirs. Cue the awkwardness and a double date that have one member of each couple wishing they were with the other person in the other pairing. These two have a lot of great moments together, but their story also highlights that there's no guarantee that a new relationship will be free of struggles even if you guys are best friends transitioning into more. And remember, they're high school seniors, so there's so much more on their respective plates--college, hockey, scholarships, final projects, and then add to it a new boyfriend or girlfriend. Tied Up in You was a look at the ups and downs of young love and it was a fab 4.5-star read! ♥
