Review: Sexy Beast by Piper Rayne (Single Dads Club #3)

Note: This ARC was provided by the authors via Enticing Journey Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

“I was deciding if I wanted to be this close to you or not,” I say and hop up to take my seat.
He turns the key in the ignition and leans over really close to grab something from the glove box.
“We both know you do.”
He grabs his sunglasses, places them over his eyes and pulls out of the driveway like he didn't just admit that he knows I've wanted him for years.

This past weekend had me saying goodbye to more than one series that I've fallen in love with and Piper Rayne's Single Dads Club was one of them. Not having read the first series this writing duo came out with but having heard good things about their writing had me cautiously excited to see if that same writing would call to me. And call it did! One novella and three novels later, you can now count me as a fan of Piper Rayne's, not only trying to find time to read their first series but also awaiting what they've got in store for fans and readers. But before I think about what they've done in the past and what they'll be doing in the future, let's talk about the present, and when I say "present", it's not just "now" but about them giving readers a gift in the form of SDC series ender Sexy Beast.

Thirty-four-year-old Garrett Shaw has spent the last twelve years focused on one person and one person only--his daughter Sydney. Losing his wife Melissa so suddenly when Sydney was still a baby changed him in so many ways, making him into the too gruff, too serious, too quiet man that he is today. He's never falling in love again, so why bother trying to make a go of any committed relationship with another woman? He spends his time with his daughter, on his business, and with his closest friends. He's okay being a member of the Single Dads Club, a club that seems to find its core members now not-so-single any longer. That's not happening to him though, not even if he's sorely tempted by the one woman he cannot want--his best friend's twenty-six-year-old sister, Charlotte Rose.

Piper Rayne saved the best for last because Garrett Shaw was the one dad in that club who had me super curious as to what story he had to tell and how Charlie would convince him to take a chance on her. From the beginning of this series, it was clear that Charlie had a thing for her brother's best friend, but Garrett was far more difficult to decipher. Was he interested? Well, he made that interest more than known here, and this final novel in the series had that wonderful mix of humor and heart that this writing duo have made their niche. At times, I wanted to smack Garrett upside the head, but I got why he was as hesitant as he was. Bonus points go to Sydney for being such a rock star preteen. Sexy Beast was one of my favorite reads over the weekend AND this year. Five-plus stars. ♥
