Review: Heart of the Steal by Avon Gale & Roan Parrish (Heart of the Steal #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the authors via A Novel Take PR in exchange for an honest review.

Is it too early to name a book one of the best for the year? I know we've still got five and a half months left in 2017, but Heart of the Steal, the first in the new series by the same name from the writing duo of Avon Gale and Roan Parrish, has just earned a permanent spot on that "Best of" list. This contemporary romance charmed the hell out of me, swept me off my proverbial feet, and left me giddy and ready to gush about how much I adore Amory Vaughn and William Fox and their offbeat but on-point love story. There was a great deal about the book--from its main characters to the tale they, with some help from Gale and Parrish, tell--that caught me by surprise, and I so love when that happens because then it becomes so much more than I was hoping it would be and my hopes were already high to begin with. This novel was sweet and steamy and smile-inducing and just so frickin' swoon-worthy!

Thirty-four-year-old William Fox hasn't been in a relationship since his last one ended a decade ago, so his flirting skills are rather rusty. But all it takes is one look at forty-two-year-old billionaire Amory Vaughn to spark something between the two of them, that something being an unexpected intimate moment by a painting that catches Will's interest. Will walks away from the incident wishing he could have let Vaughn know he would like an opportunity for more. So, imagine his surprise when a painting--the same one that he admired--shows up along with an invitation from Vaughn. What's a man like Will to do? Well, take Vaughn up on his invitation, of course, because that makes things easier for Will...and awkward too. After all, how do you go about making known to the man you were intimate with that you suspect him of theft and that you happen to be an FBI agent specializing in art crimes?

A disciplined, rule-following federal agent who sees the world in black and white and a billionaire who has a penchant of sorts of taking artwork and has a thing for testing, bending, and breaking rules? Yes, please! Will and Vaughn--William to Vaughn and Amory to Will--had such a unique love story. Talk about being thrown a complication so early on in their, erm, courtship. But watching them overcome their issues--well, Will's issues--was just so damn entertaining that reading this novel was the highlight of my Saturday, and this was a Saturday that had me in the company of two other fantastic five-plus-starred reads. But there was simply something extraordinary about this fantastical romance novel. Let me end this review by saying something that may be a cheesy but true--Heart of the Steal stole my heart. I'm insisting you read it immediately! Five-plus stars times two. ♥
