Review: "Cherish Me, Cowboy" by Alissa Callen (Wildflower Ranch #1)

Cherish Me, Cowboy is the first book in the Wildflower Ranch series by Alissa Callen. It's also part of the Montana Born Rodeo series and while I haven't read any of the other books there, this one was able to work as a standalone. This also happens to be a quick read and does nicely for anyone wanting a light and sweet romance but not looking forward to spending hours reading. ^.^

Payton Hollis takes her being a cowgirl seriously. Her ranch and animals have always come first, meaning she doesn't have time to do a lot of fun and frivolous stuff, and she certainly can't afford to fall in love with someone. Times are tough but she refuses to be distracted...and then she meets a good looking stranger that may look "city" but with everything else about him saying he's a cowboy at heart.

Cordell Morgan is in Montana for a reason and it isn't what he's been telling those who've been inquiring. He's not the type to stay in one place for very long but he's there to get answers. He rents some land in order to help out an old friend's cattle have a place to graze and feed, a plausible enough reason for him to be in the area. He can't allow himself to be distracted but his next-door neighbor is difficult to resist.

Payton has learned to rely on herself and always has a ready "thanks but no thanks" on her lips when people offer to help her out. Cordell has never really allowed himself to feel or to show what it is he's feeling, needing to protect himself. When these two get together, they'll need to let go of their own inhibitions and embrace the possibility of finding something more with each other.

I enjoyed Cherish Me, Cowboy and liked that it was this beautiful love story that didn't have to rely on steamy sex scenes to show the attraction and affection between the lead characters. It also boasts of a great supporting cast that included a matchmaking senior citizen named Henry and an ornery horse named Mossy. All in all, it's a book that warms your heart and is worthy of a four-star rating. ♥

Date read: 01 January 2015
