Review: While You Were Trending by Pippa Grant (Accidentally Infamous #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

What do you do when the guy who always made it clear how much he disliked you shows up at the one place that's become you're refuge--your home? Oh, and did I forget to mention that he also happens to be your ex's best friend? The same ex whose wedding you crashed and tried to stop four years ago? That's the situation Virginia May Rhodes, better known as Ginny, finds herself in. It's been four years since she did what she did just as her ex was getting married months after Ginny ended things between them. She may have achieved fame as a teen reality star, but it was the wedding crashing that cemented her infamy. Now, she has no choice but to share Makepeace Cellars with retired hockey player Declan Fox. She'll grin and bare his presence, all in hopes of his documentary helping to get the winery's name out there. But when Declan shares with her one simple truth about his true feelings about her, will it wreak havoc on the winery's precarious future as well as Ginny's still healing bruised and battered emotions?

While Pippa Grant's latest series is titled Accidentally Infamous, there's certainly nothing accidental about how much of a good collection of stories it's turning out to be. While You Were Trending is a romance about two people who, on paper, should not be together as a couple. Not when the girl is someone the guy has been in love with ever since his best friend--and her now ex--was in a relationship with her. That may sound salicious, but there's nothing inherently taboo about Ginny and Declan's love story. Is it complicated? Definitely, but true love is always worth fighting for, and these two undoubtedly earned their happily-ever-after. I love how far Ginny has come from that moment of infamy, but I also appreciated that she was someone who was continuing to heal from everything she went through when she was younger. And then there's Declan, whose treatment of Ginny while she was with Alex is something I will not excuse, but he was a man who's been in love with her since they were college seniors and thought being a jerk was the best way to handle his conflicted thoughts and feelings. He did make amends in more ways than one, so I couldn't really hate on the guy all that much. Kudos as well for how Alex was presented. He wasn't some evil ex; he was human. As always, bonus points for the scene stealing fur baby, Flow. Cuteness! Can this series get any better? We shall see. Five stars!
