Review: Chasing Home by Piper Rayne (Plain Daisy Ranch #6)

Chasing Home is the sixth novel in the Plain Daisy Ranch series, and it features the last single Owens sibling--and the youngest in the brood of three--Romy, who runs The Knotted Barn. When those closest to her pull of a surprise they thought would have her over the moon, they're the ones who are shocked when it doesn't go over as well as they expected it to. After all, country music superstar Zander Shaw being Romy's celebrity crush isn't exactly a secret, and having him on the ranch to film his new music video would mean she would be in close proximity to the guy she always dreamt of meeting. What none of them realize, however, is that Romy has actually met Zander before, and let's just say that they got up close and VERY personal with each other before he decided that she was no longer welcome backstage. Now, she's forced to spend time with him while he's working on the video. However, keeping things polite and professional isn't necessarily simple--not when there's the complication of Romy being pregnant and the dad just happens to be Zander, the same guy who doesn't believe in happily-ever-afters.

There were already hints as to what was going on with Romy in the previous book in the series, Chasing Love, and while Zander's involvement wasn't obvious, I did assume that he had something to do with the state that she was in. While it was easy to like Romy, I wasn't a huge fan of Zander's, not with how he decided to end things during their brief time together. Did he redeem himself? Of course, he did, and I understood why there was such great hesitation on his part to pursue a far more committed romantic relationship with Romy. While these two main characters obviously had history, the next phase of their journey felt very much like a slow burn romance, and well, I'm a sucker for that particular trope. Add in the whole small town thing plus him being famous and her being his former fangirl, all of which was melded with humor and heart in a way the writing duo of Piper and Rayne are always highly adept at, and I was a happy camper. With the second set of siblings done, I cannot wait to see what awaits the third trio, the Ellises--Scarlett, Jensen, and Poppy. For now, Chasing Home hits the spot and receives 4.5 stars.
