Review: Falling Stars by Lex Martin (Wild at Heart #2)

We're back in the town of Wild Heart, Texas with the second book in Lex Martin's Wild at Heart series. Falling Stars is a friends-to-lovers romance featuring Baylee Reyes and Maverick Walker. For fellow readers who have read Martin's Varsity Dads new adult series, Maverick should be a familiar name, having been introduced in the final book, Blindside Beauty. Having said that, this new novel can be read as a standalone, meaning you don't even have to read the first book in the series either, but Stealing Hearts, which has Paige Lewis and Rhett Walker, Baylee's closest friend and Mav's oldest brother, respectively, as the main characters, was a strong start to the series and one I would happily recommend.

Where Maverick Walker was, Baylee Reyes wouldn't be far behind, not when these two best friend were each other's ride-or-die. But a kiss when they were both seventeen--one Mav regretted instantly--changed the dynamics of their relationship, and while they stayed friends, Baylee kept enough of a distance from the boy who broke her heart. Fast forward nearly six years later, and after being a standout tight end in college, Mav is now a promising rookie with the New York Vipers, while Baylee is back in their hometown of Wild Heart, Texas, having taken over the family-owned Bumblebee Beauty Salon. Their lives have gone in different directions, but fate in the form of an unplanned pregnancy with a boyfriend and multiple injuries on the ice brings Baylee and Maverick back in closer proximity than either one of them expected.

Who doesn't like a romance involving friends who have been harboring more than platonic feelings for each other? Baylee and Maverick's story has the added element of her having a baby with someone who isn't Maverick and him dealing with things involving his hockey career. I love how darn supportive he was of her, and it was clear that he had bonded with baby Leo. The romance was great, but when it came to who was harassing Baylee, well, I must admit that I had to suspend a bit of my disbelief because the reason behind it was a bit farfetched. However, I still enjoyed Falling Stars, and I am giving it four stars.
