Review: Play It by Ear by K.M. Neuhold (Replay #2)

Author K.M. Neuhold is back with the second novel in her rock star romance series Replay and it's a second-chance love story with a twist. Play It by Ear is about Orlando Meyers, bassist and main songwriter for Downward Spiral, one of the most famous bands in the world that appears to be living up to its name, what with the issues that its four members are facing. When one of them suffers a breakdown of sorts, the other three take a mandatory break before they're left with no other choice than to break up. Lando decides time on his own is exactly what he needs.
Returning to the place where he fell in love with his soulmate stirs a myriad of emotions, but Lando is shocked to come face to face with the very guy he may have only spent a few days with but whose memory has stayed with him for nearly a decade. His time with Dawson Hayes proved to be life-changing, but when Dawson looks at him, there isn't a flicker of recognition. It turns out Dawson suffered a brain injury that led to some memory loss and deafness. Can the rockstar make the man he's been in love with for nine years fall in love with him one more time?
You'd think that Lando was the one who suffered more than Dawson because he's loved him for all these years yet Dawson has no memories of them together, but my heart break just as much for Dawson because you could see that he wanted just as desperately to remember what they shared in the past. I also love the idea of Downward Spiral plus their manager taking their respective second chances with significant people in their lives on the same timeline. Gah! This series rocks--pun totally intended--and I cannot wait for book three! Five stars for Play It by Ear. ♥
