Review: Naughty Secrets by Sarah Castille (Naughty Shorts #3)

Three books into Sarah Castille's Naughty Shorts, and I do believe I've found my favorite of the bunch! Naughty Secrets may have a married couple like the first two books, but this had a completely different feel to it. Sam White and Natalie were sixteen when they first met in high school and fell in love. They've been together for nearly two decades, having gotten married for more than half of that time. They had hopes for the family they were going to have and for the home they would share, fueled by their love for each other, their son Ethan, and Sam's dreams of making it in the music industry and Natalie becoming a teacher. Ten years ago, though, their worst nightmare happened, and to this day, neither one of them has truly been able to move forward. Sam became a farmer and Natalie a farmer's wife, both settling into their roles and settling into a life they never imagined for themselves. They don't talk about what happened, so when the town's hot new dentist offers to lend an empathetic ear, Natalie takes him up on it. When Sam finds out, will it be too late to win his wife back?

If you've been following this series of shorts, then you'll know how pivotal a supporting character Dr. Aiden Steadman becomes in the lives of the main characters in each of the books. To be honest, I thought this third and what I originally presumed was the final book in the series would be about him finally finding his own bit of happily-ever-after. Lo and behold, this was about Sam and Natalie, and although Aiden still plays a pivotal role in their story, it isn't like with the first two books. I won't say what the difference was, but it was one of the major things that made this particular book stand out from its predecessors. There's also the wee bit of angst brought on by the marital woes between Sam and Natalie and their joint history regarding their son Ethan. I would have given the book a five-star rating, but I didn't really buy into Natalie's best friend Alexis Morales being altruistic when she did what she did at the bar. Yeah, methinks the girl had her own self-serving reasons. Overall, I liked the story of Sam and Natalie rediscovering their connection in Naughty Secrets. It gets 4.5 stars. ♥
