Author Spotlight: Eden Butler, Crimson Cove

A Q&A with Eden Butler
1. What was your inspiration behind Crimson Cove?
The idea came from a project that I had very good intentions participating in, but as the weeks went by and Bane refused to be a shifter, I realized that wasn’t where the story needed to go. I was going to wait, actually until 2016 to publish it, but was encouraged by my friend (read: bossed around by them), to get it polished for a December release.
2. Was it difficult for you to switch from contemporary romances to a paranormal romance? Why or why not?
Not at all. I started out in paranormal, though most of my stories in that genre were short stories and straight fantasy with only small hints of romance. I love fantasy and paranormal and tend to read that quite a lot so writing a paranormal romance was an easy transition. It was also the most fun I’ve had writing in a long, long time. My first published stories, both under another name, were contemporary fantasies in two different anthologies.
3. Who would you cast as Janiver Benoit and Bane Illes if the book were ever to be made into a movie?
If we could have a mix of Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy, you’d get Bane—very masculine, very alpha, very smart and very, very beautiful. Janiver, I think would be impossible to cast because she’s very unique and I’ve yet to see anyone that strikes me as similar to her.
4. What's up next for you after Crimson Cove?
2016 we will be saying goodbye to the Serenity series and the Thin Love series. Both will be wrapped up by April (God willing) and you’ll see some brand new projects from me. I’m planning two standalones with two of my friends that I’m very excited about as well as an anthology in July that benefits disabled vets. Other than that, I have plans for the next book in the Shadows series and possibly more from the little village of Crimson Cove. But, that isn’t by any means a promise.
I am currently writing something that won’t be an Eden novel and it’s taken most of my attention. That’s a novel I’ll query to an agent.
5. What words of wisdom would you give aspiring writers who look up to you?
Read. That is the most important thing you can do as a writer. It keeps your mind sharp and your inspiration invoked. I really believe that if you don’t bother with reading you cannot grow as a writer, so read and keep reading.
