Review: My One Regret by Claudia Burgoa

“Some nights I wish I could take everything back. My kisses, my love—all of it. But as much as I want to, I don't regret you. Because when we were together, you were exactly who i wanted to love, who I needed to love me.”

Outside of her Unexpected series, I dare say that My One Regret is Claudia Burgoa at her best. This standalone has the angsty goodness that I crave when I’m in the mood for something heavy to sink my proverbial teeth into, and it doesn’t get any heavier than a second chance romance and this one’s even got a rock-star-and-regular-girl feel to it for those who love the rock star romance trope.

Three years ago, thirty-three-year-old rock star Kaden Hades met twenty-eight-year-old florist Sadie Bell while his band was performing a charity event in a coffee house. Kade was once married and had two teenage daughters who he loved unconditionally, but he never knew true love—the kind that made him see only one person by his life forever until Sadie. She was the love of his life, and a couple of years later, they were engaged. But when his older daughter tries to harm herself, Kade is forced to choose between his children and the woman he wanted to share his life with…and he breaks his own heart along with Sadie’s in the process.

Kade spends the next six months in misery, and when he receives news about a car accident that’s left Sadie with life-threatening injuries. He rushes to her side but she’s in a coma. He has no time to wallow, though, because he needs to step up and be the man that Sadie has always deserves. But with her life in the balance, will Kade still have the chance to atone for his mistakes and have a life once again with Sadie or will he be forced to forever life with his one true regret?

This one evoked a slew of thoughts and emotions from me. There were moments that I seriously wanted to shake both Kade and Sadie in order for them to see the error of their ways. Yep, I included Sadie in that statement because neither one of them was faultless, and that also includes Kade's own daughters. Don't get me started on Kade's ex because that woman deserved to be in a padded cell somewhere far, far away. Now, back to the Kade and Sadie—these two had their struggles but they also had their triumphs, and I loved reading every single chapter of their love story.

While the book starts off with the broken engagement and then a six-month jump to Kade learning about the accident, we find out about how they met and fell in love through flashbacks. We also witness just how much Kade continues to love her throughout her coma and recovery. This is what love looks like--the good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful realization that the truest kind of love prevails in the end. If you've never read a Claudia Burgoa novel, My One Regret is the perfect place to start. Five-plus stars. ♥
