Review: Tender with a Twist by Annabeth Albert (Rainbow Cove #2)

"You deserve a lot more than me, that's for sure."
He made frustrated noise. "You keep saying that. But what if I deserve you? What if we deserve each other? What if you deserve to be happy with me? Would that be so hard to believe?"

A drunk driver took the life of Curtis Hunt's longtime partner, and for the past two years, he's chosen to live a more secluded life, not wanting to become too closely connected with others, except for a rarefied few. That doesn't mean, however, that the forty-two-year-old wood carver doesn't have needs--needs that are far baser with more than a hint of kink. He never considered, however, that the one to meet those needs would be none other than the twenty-seven-year-old chef of the restaurant and bar that Curtis's best friend liked to drag him to. You would never think baby-faced and privileged Logan Rosner would have it in him to exert control, but when Logan takes charge of a situation and puts another man in his place, Curtis takes notice and his curiosity gets the better of him. One time for the baby Dom and the pain slut to get their fix should do it...or so they think. Soon, neither one can get enough, but Logan doesn't appreciate being labeled a kid by Curtis or not being able to publicly acknowledge their relationship. Curtis already gave his heart to his partner years ago; is there enough left of it for him to give Logan?

Gah! Logan and Curtis were just...gah! Seriously, these two were such an unlikely coupling but the more they were together, the more they simply made sense. Neither one is looking for anything more than what the other can offer, but see, that's the thing--Logan and Curtis are quite able to offer up more than what they're advertising. Curtis is still mourning the loss of his beloved partner and the last thing Logan wants is to be a placeholder of sorts. I loved how their connection grew on me, almost as if it developed and they took notice of it slowly and surely, just like I did. There are the expected roadblocks, but these were of the more emotional kind, and damn if I didn't get teary-eyed when guilt crept into Curtis's already battered heart. Annabeth Albert has quickly made her Rainbow Cove series one that her fans and readers need to keep an eye on, because it isn't just about the the evolution of the characters and their stories but that of the town of Rainbow Cove, Oregon as well. I can't wait to read the next two books (fingers crossed for more!), but for now, I'm totally recommending Tender with a Twist. Five-plus stars! ♥
