Review: Lucky Number Eleven by Adriana Locke (Exposé #5)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Lucky Number Eleven is a sports romance standalone written by Adriana Locke and it's the fifth novel in the multi-authored Exposé collection with a gossip magazine writing about well-known celebrities as the common backdrop. Branch Best has a reputation for being the best wide receiver in the NFL, and it's a reputation he's worked hard for, keeping his focus on football and making it his main priority. That isn't to say, however, that he hasn't cultivated a reputation for being a ladies' man  off the field, and he hasn't exactly done anything to dissuade the public from thinking that he isn't hurting for female companionship. After all, it's the truth. Settling down with someone isn't a priority, not with the divorce rate among professional athletes, especially when it comes to football. No woman has ever come close to making him change my mind when it comes to commitment... Then he meets Layla James Miller, his best friend's younger sister. What began as nothing more than flirty and fleeting fun has them both feeling more. Layla's done with pro athletes, but Branch doesn't want to merely get lucky with her. He wants more.

This Adriana Locke-penned story was the first in the Exposé series that I read, and I liked the idea of a gossip rag poking around and trying to get the scoop on the celebrities it was hounding. It isn't a main player in the story and thank goodness the author didn't try to make it seem like it was better than it actually was. It stirred up rumors and only bothered to verify the news afterwards, but then that's reality. While not a main player, the magazine's stories do become a catalyst for both Layla and Branch and where they take their relationship. Speaking of these two, another thing about this book that I liked was the fact that there wasn't this instantaneous feeling of love and adoration between them. Oh, the attraction was there, but this was about lust and whatever else that developed came afterwards. As a bonus, we get snippets of the romance dramedy going on with Layla's brother and her best friend, Finn and Poppy. Overall, I quite enjoyed reading this latest release from Locke, and once again, she's left me happily satisfied with a cute love story. While I can't give Lucky Number Eleven eleven stars, I can give it four stars. ♥
