Review: Just Another Viscount in Love by Vivienne Lorret (Season's Original #3.5)

Note: This ARC was provided by Avon Impulse via Edelweiss+ in exchange for an honest review.

The knot inside of her returned, now threaded with despair. “You do not understand. If it is not her, it will be someone else to take her place. And if I could, I would protect all whom I love from such slander.” Lifting her gaze, she laid her hand on his arm, hoping to tell him in this small gesture that she counted him among those. “I am able to see things that you cannot.”
He flinched and shrugged away from her touch, taking a step apart from her. “It is no wonder that your only thought is to escape. You only see blocked paths and barred doors, Gemma. Not the open arms right in front of you.”

Squeeeee! This novella has me squeeing like the fangirl I am of this series AND grinning like a lovesick fool. Why? Because Samuel Wortham, Viscount Ellery, has finally found the woman he's meant to be with, and if there was one recurring Season's Original character who deserved to get his own happily-ever-after, it was Sam. Twenty-six and reminded time and again that now would be a good time to marry and start working on an heir or two. It's not as if Sam hasn't met a young woman who's captured his fancy enough that he'd consider her someone he may marry. Unfortunately, it seems that he doesn't quite understand women as much as he believed he did, what with him facing rejection not just once but twice. But there's something about the beautiful young woman he sees wading through the pond on his family's property that doesn't just capture his fancy but possibly his heart as well. The upside is that twenty-two-year-old Gemma Desmond is as smitten by the viscount as he is with her. The downside? Sam may decide to have nothing to do with her once he learns of her too notorious family background.

If it's one thing that Vivienne Lorret has shown me over the span of this series of hers that I adore, it's that she does slow burn well. So well, in fact, that I'd consider it her super power. In Just Another Viscount in Love, I was a witness to how Sam and Gemma circled around one another, the draw to the other clear but keep in mind that this was during a time where one didn't immediately just blurt out what they were thinking or feeling. Propriety and all that jazz. But it's that slow burn that had me happily anticipating how Sam and Gemma would get around to confessing their feelings, feelings that I saw developing as their story played out on the page. Sam has been a supporting character since The Debutante is Mine and I felt for him as he seemed to pursue the very same ladies that already had feelings for someone else. Gemma, on the other hand, has been around since The Earl is on Fire, and after everything she had to endure no thanks to her father, the lady deserved someone who wasn't related to her that she was, indeed, worthy and always has been. And Just Another Viscount in Love? It's worth five-plus stars. ♥
