About The Other Five Percent
Logan Vanderveer has a joke he’s been telling since college: he’s ninety-five percent straight. He did some experimenting in school, but none of the men he fooled around with inspired him to abandon “the plan”: meet a nice girl, get married, and settle down, just like his parents always said.

None of them except Ellis Floyd, who aroused desires and feelings that scared Logan. So much so that he abandoned their burgeoning relationship just as it might have become something. But four years later, Ellis is back, and Logan finds himself questioning his sexuality in a big way.

Ellis doesn’t fit into Logan’s plan. He’s happy being a starving artist, whereas Logan has sold his soul to corporate America. Ellis is ripped jeans, and Logan is tailored suits. And, most notably, Ellis is out. But seeing him again is dredging up memories—like how it feels to kiss Ellis, and that time they almost went all the way. With chemistry like theirs, Logan isn’t sure he can—or should—keep ignoring the other five percent.

A Guest Post from Quinn Anderson
Our Leading Men, and Picking Favorites

Logan and Ellis, the stars of The Other Five Percent, are near and dear to me. I don’t always bond on a personal level with my characters, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. If I only ever wrote people I relate to, I’d never write anything different. But in this case, Logan and Ellis are both in places in life that I think everyone can understand: Ellis is struggling to let go of the past, and Logan is trying to figure out who he is.

I actually don’t know which of our two leading males is my favorite. I’m usually the bad parent who has one she prefers (Shh! Don’t tell my other characters!), but in this instance, there is so much I love about both of them. And plenty that frustrates me.

Ellis is so real; he’s himself one hundred percent of the time, and he’s unapologetic about it. But there’s also this fragility to him that I think comes hand-in-hand with passion and creativity. Ellis allows his broken heart to rule his life for years, and when he’s reunited with Logan, it shows. Logan, on the other hand, is such a content and stable person. He doesn’t want to climb the corporate ladder and make a six-figure salary. He just wants to be happy. And unfortunately, his pursuit of happiness often leads him to ignore what’s right in front of him. Ignorance truly is bliss.

Both Logan and Ellis are concerned with how they appear to others, but in vastly different ways. Ellis has mastered the art of projecting “I don’t give a fuck” from his very pores. Logan, on the other hand, does everything he can to appear normal and successful. If he can’t always feel like he’s a well-adjusted adult, he can at least look like it. I understand both of their mentalities so well, especially now that I’m in my mid-twenties. I think we all can relate to wanting to express ourselves but still having to put on professional faces at times.

Thanks so much for reading, and remember to leave a comment for your chance to win!

When she's not writing, she enjoys traveling, cooking, spending too much time on the internet, screwing the rules, finding the Master Sword, guided falling, consulting for the NYPD, guarding the galaxy, boldly going, and catching 'em all.
