Review: Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne (Love, Unexpectedly #4)

Note: This ARC was provided by Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchange for an honest review.

Andrew Mulroney and Georgie Watkins live in the same building. He's buttoned-up and prefers order and she's gregarious and enjoys spontaneity. Every five in the morning, their paths intersect collide, trading barbs and eye rolls like they were in fashion. They don't necessarily hate each other; it's more a matter of...disliking certain elements about the other. Andrew sees Georgie as the typical heiress--someone who has what she has because it's been handed to her. She's never had to work for anything in her life. Georgie, on the other hand, could do with less of Andrew's smugness and condescension. He automatically dismisses her, as if whatever she says or does doesn't matter. But all it takes is one kiss and everything that's been silently simmering beneath all the thinly veiled animosity tumbles over. The attraction that neither one wants to acknowledge, the fact that they look forward to their five AM back-and-forths--they're coming to the surface, but what are they to do with it all? They're as different as oil and water, and we all know those two don't mix. But maybe they're exactly what the other one needs, and at the end of it all, they could very well prove that opposites not only attract, they get a happy ending.

Hmmm... I had to take a step back after finishing up Walk of Shame, the fourth and latest in Lauren Layne's Love, Unexpectedly series. There were definitely parts of the book that I loved. The humor was almost always on-point and there was no denying the chemistry between the main characters, thirty-year-old sought-after divorce lawyer Andrew Mulroney and twenty-six-year-old heiress Georgiana Watkins. From the bickering to the banter, they're an easy couple to like and they were truly rather entertaining. However, there was a disconnect with them at times. Maybe it was because it took as long as it did for these two to get together. Maybe it was because Georgie really was ridiculous and didn't want to move beyond the box so many others had pegged her in--that of pampered society princess who partied too much and worried about what to do with her life other than go after that Disney-like happily-ever-after too little. Maybe because between the two of them, it was only Andrew who evolved to a certain degree. There was romance; there was comedy, but something was just...missing. That doesn't mean, however, that I didn't enjoy Walk of Shame. I did. It simply wasn't my favorite Lauren Layne read. So, four stars it is. ♥
