Review: Unconditionally by Nell Iris

Note: This ARC was provided by the publisher via Signal Boost Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

Unconditionally is a novella written by Nell Iris as part of the multi-authored Love Wins series from JMS Books. It's the story of the culmination of the six-year romance between Gustav Hanson and Luca Moretti. They met back in 2009, and with the legalization of same-sex marriage in the United States in 2015, Gus knew that marrying Luca was unquestionable. He wanted to spend the rest of his life married to the only man he would ever consider calling his husband. And Luca? He knows exactly how lucky he is to have Gus in his life, the man who's accepted him for who he is, flamboyant quirks and all. But when the day of their wedding arrives, all it takes is one vicious word from his mother to have Luca run off in tears. Will Gus be able to get the other groom-to-be to the church on time?

This was a fast-paced novella, one that I enjoyed, especially when it came to the introduction being how Gus and Luca met and then fast-forwarding to the day of their wedding, with a few flashbacks thrown in to better explain certain developments in the story. Gus and Luca are opposites in a lot of ways, but they share the most important thing that wins out over all those differences: love. I wanted to smack Luca's mother, especially since it was rather hypocritical of her to treat him so terribly, especially since she, as a Catholic, "sinned" as well when she had him. Kudos to the author for the way she decided to handle the whole situation with Luca's mom. I think it was the right thing to do under Luca's circumstances. Overall, Unconditionally was a satisfying, short, and sweet read. Four stars. ♥
