Review: Ablaze by Paige Tyler (Dallas Fire & Rescue #2)

Ablaze is the second book in bestselling author Paige Tyler's romantic suspense series, Dallas Fire & Rescue. Book two is about two members of Dallas Fire and Rescue's Station 58, fourteen-year veteran firefighter Dane Chandler and paramedic Lexi Fletcher. Lexi used to belong to Station 44 but asked to be transferred to Station 58 after seeing Dane during one fire. The fact that the 58 was larger in terms of size and manpower--meaning they handled more calls--and had better facilities were part and parcel of what made the transfer a good one. After a couple of months of working in the same place, however, Lexi didn't seem to be any closer to getting Dane's attention...until she insists he goes to the hospital after one incident, which leads him to finally asking her out. The attraction between them is undeniable, more so the chemistry that they share. This feels like it could be more, but can two people who have jobs that have risks work out in the end? Things become more complicated when Lexi's patients start dying mysteriously.

Okay, I'm just going to put this out there: I found it a tad creepy that Lexi's main motivation to ask to be transferred to Station 58 was her crush on Dane. The fact that he hadn't shown any outward interest in her prior to the transfer made me wonder if she wasn't a little obsessed with the guy. As the story went on, I had let the whole thing go...until, that is, the end of the book. He says something to her and she starts contemplating doing something based on what he said. Again, I got the whole creepy vibe, but hey, maybe she's just the type of person who goes all in. I just thought it was weird. But while I found Lexi strange, I did like Dane, who is clearly still as protective as ever. It was also nice to see how far his relationship with his sister and his best friend had come. I also liked the mystery in this sequel because I had a couple of suspects in mind but was totally thrown for a loop when the actual perpetrator was revealed. So, while I did like the first book more than this second story, Ablaze was still an okay read and I'm giving it 3.5 stars. ♥
