Review: Thor by Brit Lauren (Recherché #1)

Thor is the first story in the Recherché erotica series by Brit Lauren, the pseudonym used by author L.P. Lovell. Thor Jameson is the brains behind Recherché, a private escort service that's known for both its discretion and the ability of its escorts to give their clients exactly what they want. The business has made Thor and his escorts a great deal of money, allowing him to limit his own list of clients to a select few. When a request comes in for a date to a wedding, Thor steps in due to a scheduling issue. What was supposed to be nothing more than a pre-wedding meeting turns out to have Thor fascinated with his to-be date, Poppy Whitely. If this were nothing more than him lusting over her, it would be easy enough for him to handle, but Thor finds himself thinking about Poppy in a way he's never done with any of his clients before. For the first time ever, Thor wants to offer Poppy something far more meaningful and lasting, but will she be able to accept the fact that he's an escort and that countless women have been with him before?

This is a quickie of a read and a dirty one at that. It does have a story to tell in the midst of all the sex that Thor engages in, and not all of it is with Poppy. After all, he is an escort and pretending that he has a sudden change of heart and his conscience gets the better of him after he meets Poppy the first time doesn't exactly mesh with who he is nor would it be realistic. Thor and his bevy of escorts are fascinating, what with most of them seem to be in the business as much for the money as they are for the sex. It's Thor's best friend, Xavier, who I'm most curious about so I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for his story. Thor and Poppy's love story is what you expect it to be, especially since when you go into it knowing that it's an erotic romance book, heavy on the erotic, not so much in the romance. The writing itself is pretty good, but I wish there was more tension and that something was thrown in to make Thor stand out from all the others that share the same story line, but there were no surprises so it gets 3.5 stars. ♥
