Review: Rescuing Rayne by Susan Stoker (Delta Force Heroes #1)

Delta Force Heroes series starter Rescuing Rayne is my first Susan Stoker read and it was good one, with tension brought about by both the action and suspense surrounding thirty-six-year-old Delta Force team leader and army captain Keane "Ghost" Bryson and the romance and intrigue of the one-night stand that he shares with the woman who turns out to be "the one", twenty-eight-year-old flight attendant Rayne Jackson. Susan Stoker punches her writing with pulse-pounding moments and she times it just as she lulls you into this feeling of complacency, as if all's quite well in the world, and then BAM! All hell breaks loose. She doesn't bombard you with heaviness, lightening things up whenever necessary, which I so appreciated.

When Ghost and Rayne end up sitting side-by-side on a flight bound from London to the US, there's an instant spark. The flight ending up rescheduled due to a storm is a sign both take and they spend an unforgettable day together. While he's forced to not divulge anything about himself, Ghost gives Rayne two truths: the name he's known by and that he leaves at the end of their time together. Left with nothing more than memories, they memorialize that day in London with new ink on their bodies, neither realizing that the other has done the same. Months pass without a word...until they meet again in the most dire of circumstances. Is this a new sign, one to mean they're meant to be? But can Rayne forgive Ghost for lying?

Ghost and Rayne's love story is the kind that has that appears to be fated, with powers greater than themselves throwing them together. Admittedly, I don't think I'd go as far as getting a tattoo with someone I spent less than twenty-four hours with, but the two were clearly more affected. I liked the overall story and felt that it played out rather well. Being the Princess Diana fangirl that I am, I do feel the need to point out that she and Prince William did not get married in the same church. She and Charles married in St. Paul's Cathedral while William and Katherine married in Westminster Abbey. Other than that, I enjoyed this book and am already looking forward to reading Fletch's story next! Rescuing Rayne gets four stars. ♥
