Review: Drive You Wild by Jennifer Bernard (Love Between the Bases #3)

Drive You Wild is the third full-length novel and the fourth and latest release in bestselling author Jennifer Bernard's baseball romance series, Love Between the Bases. Trevor Stark has been a part of the series from the first book and I'm glad that he finally gets to tell his story here, and it's not your usual wounded baseball player whose life is set to rights when he meets the girl of his dreams. Trevor's gift for playing baseball is the kind that major leaguers are made of, but he's not desperately trying to get called up by the San Diego Friars. As a matter of fact, he's quite fine with simply being known as the left fielder for Triple A team Kilby Catfish. He has his reasons, but he isn't ready to share them with anyone...until the team owner's daughter shows up and starts breaking down the formerly strong defenses around his heart.
Paige Taylor can't quite believe that she's only twenty-four and is already divorced. She married out of love and stood by her man, sharing his dreams of an NBA career. That all fell apart while he was playing in Italy, and now Paige has returned to Kilby, Texas to start over. Working for her father and doing volunteer work seem like the perfect prescription to get over her broken heart. But a far better distraction comes in the form of the man who plays for her father. She's warned away from Trevor Stark, but there's so much more to the man than his reputation for being a ladies' man and an awesome ballplayer. She's seen him volunteering his time with youth groups and he's not as detached as he makes himself appear to be. Will learning the truth about the man she's falling for end up costing both of them a possible future?
I really enjoyed this newest addition to the Love Between the Bases series. It had new elements that I don't recall seeing in the first three books, so it felt like it raised the bar with Trevor and Paige's story. There's a bit of mystery and suspense but that lighthearted humor and romance is still in full force, making for a great overall read. Trevor is such a multi-layered main character and if you're familiar with the series, you'll be glad to find out what kind of back story he brings to the table and that he's much more than he may seem. I also liked how Paige wasn't some pampered princess waiting for the world to do her bidding. She's nice and sweet but also sassy and knows how to put the men in her life in their place. I loved these two together and I can honestly say that Drive You Wild is my favorite in the series so far. 4.5 stars. ♥
