Review: Falling for Jillian by Kristen Proby (Love Under the Big Sky #3)

While spending quite a few years in sunny California has made her into a city girl, you can never really take away that bit of country in Jillian Sullivan. With a failed marriage that brought her heartache and tears, Jillian makes her way back home to Montana to be close to her brother and best friends. She and single father Zack King shared a night to remember months ago but went their separate ways, leaving both filled with confusion and wariness. With her back in Montana, however, keeping their distance from each other proves to be more difficult than either one anticipated. Deciding to pursue a relationship with both Zack and his son Seth brings a sense of peace and fulfillment for Jillian, but can two people with years of baggage let go of the hurt and mistrust brought about by failed marriages for their own chance at forever?

Falling for Jillian is the third full-length novel in the Kristen Proby-penned Love Under the Big Sky series and finally tells the love story of Zack King, twin brother to Josh and best friend to Tyler Sullivan, and Jillian Sullivan, younger sister of Ty Sullivan and best friends with Cara Donovan and soon-to-be sister-in-law of Lauren Cunningham. Zack and Jillian's first time together is implied in the first book, Loving Cara, and they both handled it clumsily, jumping to conclusions and making assumptions. I was glad that they didn't jump into bed right away once Jillian is back home in Montana, because the hesitance brings a feeling of anticipation as to when these two will finally give in to what they both want--the need to be together and pursue extraordinary something special that could exist between them and see where it goes.

With both Zack and Jillian having come out their respective first marriages with emotional scars, it's easy to see why, once conflict comes along, they revert to old behaviors. There wasn't anything easy about their love story, but it was one worth fighting for. Twelve-year-old Seth King already captured my heart in the first book, and I adored him all the more him, leaving me wanting to give the kid a hug. He's able to put things in perspective for both his father and Jillian, proving that kids see a heck of a lot more than adults do and that it's best to keep things simple rather than over-complicating them. The three main couples have their happily-ever-afters, but I'm curious about the Hull siblings--Brad, Max, and Jenna--as well as Hannah Malone and Kyle Reardon, so I'm hoping for a spin-off for them. Falling for Jillian gets 4.5 stars. ♥
