Review: Divinely Ruined by Diane Alberts (Divine Temptations #1)

Rebecca Chance is working her way to becoming an angel. All she needs to do is curb her cursing and stay focused on saving her assignment's soul while giving him something to believe in. That's all easier said than done because after she meets Anthony Weis, the single father of a four-year-old daughter named Miranda and unemployed former accountant and plumber, his naughty thoughts are similar to the ones that she's forcibly pushing aside in her own head. If only she could turn off being able to read his mind, she wouldn't have to know about all the fantasies he has about the two of them together. Tony is a temptation she never anticipated, but becoming an angel, believing it'll help her feel whole once again. When she loses her memory saving Miranda and Tony takes care of Becca, will she give in and make their fantasies reality?

Divinely Ruined is the first book in the Divine Temptations paranormal romance series by bestselling author Diane Alberts. The book was originally released in April 2012 under Entangled Publishing's old Ever After imprint and is being re-released with a new cover under the Select Otherworld imprint. This was a refreshingly different take on the angel falling for a human story line, especially since Rebecca Chance is, technically, has yet to receive her wings, which would make her a full-fledged angel. One of the rules given to her is to not fall in love with her subject, in this case, Tony Weis, who feels like he's failing his four-year-old daughter Miranda by losing their home and the plumbing business passed on to him by his father. Rebecca is there to save Tony, but in turn, it's Tony who saves the broken angel that is Rebecca.

Rebecca and Tony were a fun couple and I appreciated that, even with the air of tension that was always buzzing between them, Rebecca tried to stick to her guns in order to become what she beloved she wanted to be most--an angel--while Tony respected Rebecca's wishes about him not trying anything sexual with her. There are two supporting characters, Miranda Weis and Sally the archangel, in the story and both were noteworthy because their presence changed things for the main characters's relationship. This was a pretty quick read, but the story felt complete and it had a different feel from the other Diane Alberts books I've read before. If I had to choose which books of hers are my favorites, I would definitely have to add Divinely Ruined to the list. I look forward to reading the rest of the series and give book one 4.5 stars. ♥
