Review: To Dare a SEAL by Sara Jane Stone (Sin City SEALs #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Bartender Natalie Lewis is a woman who likes to be in charge and she would never jeopardize that kind of control by entrusting her heart to any man, especially one who tempts her as much as U.S. Navy SEAL Jack Barnes. He's goaded by his brothers and teammates into a bet involving getting Natalie into bed--a bet that Natalie is more than aware of and she makes it clear to Jack that there's no way he's going to win. But Jack is the kind of man that likes a challenge and with the two of them thrown together at the wedding of Natalie's sister, Lucia, and her best friend and Jack's teammate, Cade Daniels since she's the maid of honor and he's the best man, Jack's prepared to woo Natalie. As Natalie tries to distract Jack with dares that she thinks will dissuade him from pursuing her, she learns that it's never a good idea to dare a SEAL.

To Dare a SEAL is the second book in the Sin City SEALs contemporary romance series from author Sara Jane Stone and shifts the spotlight on Natalie Lewis, sister to Lucia Lewis and best friend to Cade Daniels from the first book, To Tempt a SEAL. Natalie is partnered with Jack Barnes, Cade's teammate and someone who Natalie privately nicknames "Prince Charming", even as she refuses to be charmed by him. I liked the chemistry between the two of them and enjoyed the game of one-upmanship that seemed to be going on between Natalie and Jack, especially since there was such a struggle for Natalie to maintain control. The sexual tension between the two of them lasts for a good long while, but when these two finally do get together, the fireworks are plentiful. Add to that the banter and flirting and this was one good read.

Both Jack and Natalie had less than wonderful childhoods and they still carry with them the emotional burdens from that time--Jack with the bullying he received at the hands of his eldest brother and Natalie with moving from one foster home to another after the deaths of her parents. The bet is egged on by Jack's idiot brother and while I do feel that Jack made the right decision when it came to how to handle it, there's a part of me that wishes he could stick the fact that he did sleep with Natalie to his bully of a brother. Natalie's issues run a bit deeper and I'm glad that she and Lucia were able to discuss what happened in the past so that Natalie could finally go after the happily-ever-after that she sees her sister now enjoys. So far, the series has proven to be quite entertaining and I'm giving To Dare a SEAL 4.5 stars. ♥
