Review: The Hometown Hoax by Heather Thurmeier

Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Tessa Cutter moved to the bright lights of her chosen big city--Manhattan--in order to pursue her dreams of becoming an artist whose work would be displayed in respected galleries. While reality does not exactly match up to how Tessa built city life in her head, she refuses to give up and move back home, much to the disappointment of her very opinionated and very involved family. She knows they're going to campaign yet again to get her to return home to Cutter's Creek during the week-long vacation, so Tessa's left with no choice but to come up with a fake boyfriend in the city. That should be reason enough for her to stay in the city and keep her family's objections at bay, but Tessa doesn't expect them to set her up with Cutter's Creek's latest resident, Logan Ridley, and he may end up becoming the best reason for her to stay forever.

The Hometown Hoax is a standalone contemporary romance from author Heather Thurmeier that has Tessa Cutter creating a fake boyfriend to hold off her family's suggestions for her to return to their hometown of Cutter's Creek permanently. Meeting and falling for Logan Ridley, a former city dweller himself, was something she hadn't planned for. It's as if they've swapped places and are living the lives the other used to have. There's a bit of button pushing on both their ends for a good portion of the story, and Tessa's treatment of him does become irritating past a certain point. I also think she could have simply turned a deaf ear to her family's protestations instead of having to come up with a fake boyfriend, but I guess she was desperate. Still, The Hometown Hoax was an overall pretty good and fun read. Four stars! ♥
