Review: Beauty and the Boss by Diane Alberts (Modern Fairytales #1)

Benjamin Gale III has spent the last five years of his life bringing the family-owned company he now heads to the pinnacle of success. His mother, however, has been wanting to take it away from him and thinks she's finally found a way to do so when she catches him in what she believes is a compromising position with Maggie Donovan. When Maggie explains that she's his fiancée, Benjamin is astounded that the revelation has gotten his mother to shut up and he decides to continue to farce in order to get the woman off his back. They've always worked well professionally, so teaming up on this personal matter shouldn't be too difficult. Then emotions become too real, complicating matters, and when his mother's meddling threatens both his company and Maggie, Benjamin may have be forced to let go of one to save the other.

Beauty and the Boss is a contemporary romance from bestselling author Diane Alberts and puts a modern spin of sorts on the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale, without the oft-used disfigured male lead character. Maggie Donovan is the beauty and Benjamin Gale III is the billionaire nicknamed "beast" by his employees because of his manner in the workplace. I think it's a misnomer of sorts because he doesn't really come off as beastly in terms of how he is at work. I liked that Maggie wasn't helpless and that she stood up to Benjamin when needed. On the other hand, there were times that Benjamin blew hot then cold but he was a good guy overall who was treated terribly by his mother. Beauty and the Boss was an easygoing read and one that had fairly good ending, albeit being too idealistic in my opinion. Four stars. ♥
