Review: "Dare to Love" by Carly Phillips (Dare to Love #1)

Ian Dare refuses to be anything like his estranged father. After the discovery of his father's years of cheating and having a second family that he actually spent more time with, Ian took over the responsibility of watching over and caring for his mother and four siblings. His relationships with his half-siblings are nearly non-existent and he refuses to become emotionally involved with any woman...until he sees Riley Taylor with his half-brother Alex. When he learns that she isn't Alex's girlfriend, he decides to pursue her.

Riley Taylor's need for independence and to be in control of her life is tested when she becomes involved with her best friend Alex's oldest half-brother Ian. The fact that she's always turned to Alex first bothers Ian as well and she doesn't want to make things worse for these two men she cares for. She doesn't like relying on other people to take care of her so Ian's dominating ways make her want to keep her distance, something increasingly difficult to do. Is she ready to drop her defenses for an alpha male like Ian Dare?

Dare to Love is the first book in the series of the same title by bestselling author Carly Phillips. The series centers on the set of Dare siblings and cousins, with the siblings coming from two different families but having the same father. Because of the deception and how their father handled his respective relationships between the two families, things have been strained among certain siblings. So, aside from the love stories in each book, the dynamic among the family members becomes an important and interesting focal point.

I enjoyed reading Ian and Riley's love story and how they both had to adjust to one another's needs and wants, something that wasn't easy for either of them to do especially with their respective histories with their fathers, in order to have a future together. The issues within the family are as intriguing as the romance aspect so this will definitely be a series worth keeping track of. There's a healthy dose of drama and a whole lot of steam that makes Dare to Love a good book to curl up with this weekend. Four stars! ♥
