Review: "Dare to Desire" by Carly Phillips (Dare to Love #2)

Alex Dare is on top of the world--he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league and a lifestyle befitting his stature as a sports superstar. Then he suffers a career-ending injury, making him push his family and friends away and abruptly ending things with the one woman who's come close to making him feel something he's never felt before, Madison Evans. Six months later, he's no longer the same Alex Dare he once was and with a job offer from his brother, he may get his second chance at living and with Madison.

Madison Evans swore to herself she would never allow anyone to break her heart the way Alex Dare did six months ago, but now she's forced to work with him on an important project. He claims to have changed but Madison is wary, knowing how it feels to be rejected and abandoned. The more time they spend together, the more difficult it is to deny their feelings. When Alex is given the opportunity to go back to the life he once had, will Madison be able to trust him or will she be left brokenhearted for a second time?

Dare to Desire is the second book in the Dare to Love by Carly Phillips and those familiar with the first book will remember Alex Dare, the oldest Dare sibling in the second family. I admit that I wasn't really much of a fan of Alex's prior to reading this book because of his strained relationship with Ian, the oldest Dare sibling in the first family, and his animosity when it came to Ian's relationship with Alex's best friend Riley Taylor. But now, Alex has definitely grown on me and the guy turned out to be one of the good ones.

I liked Alex and Madison together, especially since I felt she's able to keep him grounded and focused on the things that truly matter. It was satisfying to see some progress made in terms of Alex's relationship with Ian and that it wasn't solely based on their wanting to make Riley happy. If you're looking for steam, you'll get it here in spades because these Dare siblings obviously do their best work in the bedroom (though they're quite sweet out of the bedroom too). Dare to Desire is a good read and gets four stars. ♥
