Review: "Catching Cassidy" by Melissa Foster (Harborside Nights #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Tasty Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

Cassidy Lowell and Wyatt Armstrong have been best friends ever since they were children and have been there for each other's triumphs and tribulations. The night of their college graduation becomes a turning point for both of them. Cassidy discovers her boyfriend of two years has been cheating on her for months and Wyatt reacts by beating him up for hurting her. Then, Wyatt and his twin sister Delilah receive a phone call informing them of a terrible accident that has claimed the lives of their parents. Not being able to watch the grief that's engulfing his sister, Wyatt decides it's time for the three of them to return to Harborside and spend some time in their summer home and family-owned bar with their closest friends.

Spending some downtime on the sand and surf and surrounded by people who know and care about them will be good for Delilah. Being in close quarters with Cassidy, though, is stirring up feelings he would never have associated with his best friend and it scares him, especially when he realizes that the feelings are very much mutual. He knows Cassidy's the kind of girl that a guy would be crazy to let go of and deserves the kind of commitment that Wyatt's never been known for. In his head, Wyatt believes crossing the line may cost them their friendship should things not work out, but both Cassidy and his heart are hoping he'll open himself to the very real possibility that being together would be worth every single risk.

Catching Cassidy is the first novel in the much anticipated Harborside Nights series by bestselling author Melissa Foster. This is the first novel by the author that I've had the pleasure of reading, though her Love in Bloom series, which has several mini series under its umbrella, has been on my to-be-read list for months. There are a lot of books to go through for that series but I'm glad that I'm finally able to experience her writing and storytelling with this new series, which has a few characters from the other series showing up but can be read without any prior knowledge of the other books. I can now see why many readers can't get enough of Melissa Foster's stories and characters because I am definitely hooked.

Friends to lovers romances are such a popular and well-loved theme in romance novels because we all know at least one person who's had feelings for their best friend but have kept quiet about it, afraid of becoming hurt should their feelings not be reciprocated, damaging their friendship in the process. Cassidy and and Wyatt's love story is told from both their points of view and gives readers a ringside view of how they both deal with their evolving relationship and how they begin to develop the ability to make certain decisions based on what they want and need in their lives. They find themselves in circumstances wherein they have to grow up and either make plans for their future or change the ones they have long held onto.

This book successfully told a story and introduced readers to a cast of characters that we'll be seeing all throughout, giving it a sense of familiarity that I can already tell will help make Harborside Nights a series fans will gobble up with each new release. There are lighthearted moments and deeply felt exchanges among the characters and may make you think of your own set of closest friends who are part of the family you've created for yourself. Wyatt, Cassidy, and the rest of the Harborside crew are irresistibly charming yet very much easy to relate to and Wyatt and Cassidy's own love story is one that will resonate with many. Catching Cassidy was a dream read and has me eagerly anticipating the next book. This gets five stars! ♥
