Review: "Vampires Never Cry Wolf" by Sara Humphreys (Dead in the City #3)

Note: This ARC was provided by Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sadie Pemberton went from The Coven's resident DJ to its new owner after her maker and New York City's co-czar Olivia Hollingsworth passed it on to her. She's learning to be more responsible, not only with the club but with her sisters and brothers in their coven. After all, you can only avoid responsibilities up to a certain point and for a two hundred-year-old vampire like herself, it looks like her time's come. The one thing she wishes she could avoid was having to see the crown prince of werewolves in The Coven.

Killian Bane's main reason for visiting New York City was to put a stop to his brother's evil plans. But it's been months since that confrontation ended in his brother's death and he still hasn't returned to Alaska. He's been spending a lot of time in The Coven and his attention appears to have been snagged by one vampire in particular. He plans on staying on for five more years until he takes over his father's throne, but for now, he's focused on finding the woman in his dreams that he knows is destined to be his mate.

Both Sadie and Killian know that a vampire and a werewolf engaging in certain extracurricular activities isn't exactly encouraged but what looks like mere sexual attraction appears to be something more. With centuries of distrust and suspicion between the two realms, Sadie can't help but wonder just how long this thing with Killian can last, even as Killian promises to always be there for her. When the truth of the day Sadie was turned is revealed, more complications arise, throwing their relationship into further question.

Ah, I adored this story of Sadie and Killian! Sadie was full of sass but such a sweetheart and Killian was an alpha with a soft side. A vampire and a werewolf falling in love with one another is nothing new but I so loved how the main conflict was resolved because it was original and creative. Vampires Never Cry Wolf is the kind of book you want in a series because, just like its predecessors, it exceeds expectations and sets the bar higher for the next one to come. Each story carries the bloodmate theme but can stand on its own.

It's been a while since I've found a paranormal romance that I could really sink my teeth into (pun intended!), what more a series, and when I went ahead and requested to review Vampires Never Cry Wolf, I knew I had to read the first two books because that's the kind of reader I am. Lo and behold, I'm so glad I did because I've finally found a paranormal romance series that isn't YA or NA that I'm quite invested in and would love to see where the rest of the series goes. This gem of a book gets five stars! ♥
