Review: "Return to You" by Samantha Chase (The Montgomery Brothers #4)

Note: This ARC was provided by Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A decade ago, James Montgomery and Selena Ainsley were young and in love. Selena was seventeen and a senior in high school while James was twenty, had dropped out of school at sixteen, and was working as a landscaper. They made plans to spend the rest of their lives together, preparing to get married and have a baby, until one night changed everything and their dreams of a happily ever after were torn away from them in the blink of an eye and through the manipulations of one selfish man.

Fast forward ten years later and Ryder Montgomery, James' brother, reaches out to his Uncle William for help regarding something James mentioned during Ryder's wedding. Flexing his matchmaking muscles, William Montgomery takes on the task of helping to not only reunite James with the one woman he's ever loved but to, hopefully, bring him back to the family fold. But with all the lies and secrets between James and Selena, will there be any hope for these two to finally fulfill all their dreams?

Return to You is the fourth book and fifth release in The Montgomery Brothers series by author Samantha Chase. It was interesting to see how matchmaker William Montgomery would pull this one off, especially since James is his nephew and not his son and that this had no connection whatsoever with the original set of Montgomery brothers (i.e. Mac, Jason, and Lucas). Obviously, William's matchmaking prowess is second to none, employing the help of those closest to his targets if need be.

I felt for both James and Selena, especially since they basically lost ten years that could have been spent together apart because of the hateful lies that Selena's father told James. With James assuming that Selena had indeed done the unthinkable and turned her back on him and with Selena not understanding why James wasn't by her side or why he never came looking for her, it was easy to see why these two had so much anger directed at one another, even though it was misplaced anger.

This was a good story with flawed characters who you couldn't help but empathize with. It was well-paced and was glad there wasn't some quick fix to their issues, especially since these stemmed from ten years ago. While not all the issues were resolved, it still felt like a real and well-told tale of second chance love, self-discovery, and family. Return to You is my favorite book in the series so far and I appreciated that the writing was more polished and mature. I'm giving this installment 4.5 stars. ♥
